Rachel Arntson
I have been a mosaic artist for the past 12 years and prior to that, enjoyed wood burning with painting. In recent years, I have combined these art forms in some of my work. Nature and playful children’s themes tend to be my inspiration. Frequently, I use photos that I have taken from my travels, from camping, or just from enjoying my immediate world around me.
A life-changing highlight of my time as a mosaic artist involved a trip to Venice, Italy to immerse myself in mosaic art and to take a class using smalti from mosaic artist, Mireille Swinnen. Using smalti was a first for me. I usually use stained glass, beads, metal pieces, and rocks in my work.
Another joy I have had over the years is teaching the art of mosaic to others. I hold Mosaic Breaks, 1-2 day classes, where attendees create a mosaic of their choosing. Each piece is different and uniquely theirs. These classes are done to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
If you enjoy the pieces I have here, please contact me, and I can show you additional mosaic art that I have created.
